At my workplace - the Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany - people often ask me, how I achieve this ´used´ look and feel of locomotives and wagons. Instead of mouthing out many words, I sampled a step-by-step instruction which might also be useful for newbies in the field of weathering.

Nowadays, we see many freight cars on model railroads, only to notice that most of them are empty. Guys, real railroads can't make a dime this way! Building a simple load is not all difficult and really enhances the prototypical look of your empire.

Sometimes, cars keep derailing in different places on the layout; preferrably in curves. This could be due to a wrong weight of this car. Yes, there are recommendations for the correct car weight. Read the weight - section in the workshops to find out more...
